Sremska Mitrovica – A doctor in Sremska Mitrovica discharged a patient after an examination only to have her die the same evening.

The tragic death of a patient from Sremska Mitrovica, Nataša Žabić (44), happened a few hours after the doctor discharged her from the examination.

Nataša Žabić passed away on Thursday, and as we have learned, the cause of death is linked to pulmonary thromboembolism, which is most likely from the thrombus that started from the leg she was complaining about. After the examination and prescribed therapy, the doctor decided to release the patient for home treatment. However, on the same evening Nataša Žabić passed away.

Nataša Žabić was already admitted to the hospital on March 31 due to suspected appendicitis, after which she underwent surgery and was discharged from hospital treatment. She went to the hospital again on April 25 because of a swollen leg, after which she was referred for home treatment.

Unofficially, we learn that a criminal complaint has been filed against the doctor who was involved in this case, and an internal control is expected to investigate the circumstances related to this tragedy.

Nataša Žabić’s brother, Saša, says that he believes that his sister died due to the carelessness of doctors. “Natasha was admitted to the hospital due to stomach pain and vomiting on March 31. The next day she was operated on for a ruptured appendix. Although she was discharged from the hospital on April 16, she occasionally had a fever, but despite this, she did not receive anti-thrombotic therapy. On the discharge list, she was instructed to return to the ward in case of complications. In April, Natasha felt severe pain in her left leg, which began to swell. She went to the health center where she was urgently sent for surgery due to thrombosis. However, the doctor on duty did not admit her to the ward, sent her back to the health center, even though the situation was serious. Through acquaintance, we managed to schedule an appointment with another doctor for the next day at 8:00 am. Unfortunately, Natasha passed away in the morning at 7:00 a.m., an hour before the scheduled examination. The official autopsy report showed that the cause of death was a pulmonary embolism due to a thrombus. I believe that Natasha was killed by not being admitted to a hospital where she would have received the necessary treatment.”

Nataša was only 44 years old and leaves behind two minor children aged 13 and 9.

It is expected that the investigation will provide more information about how this accident occurred and that appropriate measures will be taken to ensure the safety and quality of health care for all patients.

During the press conference, the holder of the list “Aleksandar Vučić – Sremska Mitrovica tomorrow” confirmed this information and told journalists about the case in Sremska Mitrovica hospital: “I cannot give my opinion, but this is a great shame.” It’s a shame to be silent, and I will personally call the director of the hospital to account for all of us, because that’s the least we can get.”
