The cause of death of actor Dana Carvey, who spoke with his wife about the tragedy, is known

“I just want to say thank you,” actor Dana Carvey wrote on social media, noting that he and his wife, Paula, have been overwhelmed by the love, compassion and stories shared by others following the news of their son’s death.

“We received so many nice messages from people who knew Dex. This touched us more than we could ever put into words,” the actor added, noting that he would take a break from work and social media so that he, his wife and younger son Tom (30) try to figure out what their lives will look like in the future. He said:

“We will recover as best we can and move on. Our dear Dex would have wanted it that way. Much love, Dana.”

The actor and his wife issued the following statement the day after the tragedy:

“Last night we experienced a terrible tragedy. Our beloved son Dex died of an accidental drug overdose. He was 32 years old. Dex has done a lot in 32 years. He was extremely talented in many things – music, filmmaking, comedy – and he was passionate about all of them.”

They pointed out that their son taught others to love life: “Most of all he loved his family, his friends and his girlfriend. Dex was a beautiful person. His handmade birthday cards are a real treasure. We will miss him forever.”
