American actress and theater director Susan Shepherd has died at the age of 89, her family announced.

The actress was known to the public as a “mafia mother” thanks to her roles in Martin Scorsese’s “Good Guys” where she played the mother of Karen Hill, and the series The Sopranos where she played the mother of Carmela Soprano, Daily Mail reports.
Susan’s granddaughter Isabella confirmed to The US Sun that the actress had passed away, but no cause of death was given and the family did not provide further details.
Fans have flooded social media with tributes to the actress, hailed as one of America’s best “gangster movie” actresses.
“A great actress and teacher”, “This is so sad”, “Everyone will miss her”, many wrote on social networks.
