Shakira accused the Spanish authorities of persecuting her during a court case over tax evasion

Singer Shakira has condemned authorities in Spain for targeting high-profile figures like her. ‘ She will have to pay a £6.4m fine with a £15m tax bill for financial fraud.

The music star, whose fortune is estimated at £240m, has insisted she is innocent. She claims she pleaded guilty earlier only to spare her children from watching her sacrifice herself.

Shakira has sons Milan and Sasha with ex-partner Gerard Pique, who were recently with her at the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. The former couple separated after 13 years of relationship.

“I have immense admiration for those who fought against this injustice until the end, but for me today the victory is that I have more time for my children and my career”she ordered.

She noted that her case is similar to many other cases where Spanish authorities target “athletes and other high-profile individuals.” Such cases drain people’s energy, time and take away their peace of mind for years, she said, Daily Mail reports.
