A famous Hollywood actor married a beauty without both legs and their love is a fairy tale

With the help of prosthetic legs, a beautiful American woman learned not only to walk, but also to run – and very, very fast! Amy Mullins has become living proof that in each of us, regardless of obstacles and limitations, with effort and will, we can use our potential.

She grew into a top athlete, the first ever amputee athlete to become a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. At the 1996 Paralympic Games in Atlanta, she set three world records – in the 100 and 200 and in the long jump. In parallel with her sporting successes, Amy built a career as a model and motivational speaker.

In 1999, she walked the runway for famed designer Alexander McQueen in wooden, hand-carved braces with 6-inch heels, side by side with Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell. She called it a “pivotal” moment in her life.

“It was beautiful to see how people react with awe to prosthetics, something that has always represented sadness, loss, or at least not such a good thing. It was the kind of empowerment that I was never the same after,” she said at the time.

The McQueen show was perhaps the most significant, but not the only moment in the modeling career of this beauty. Among other things, she became one of the protective faces of the “L’Oreal” brand, and “People” magazine declared her one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world. Also, Amy managed to realize herself as an actress, getting a role in the mega popular series “Stranger Things”.

Amy was also lucky on an emotional level – in 2013, she met British actor Rupert Friend, five years her junior, and just a few months later the couple got engaged. They stood on the crazy stone in 2016 in a secret, intimate ceremony.

“We eloped on May 1st. We got married on a beautiful farm in the rain – it was a perfect, perfect wedding. When it was over, we went and played pool in Manhattan. There were only four people at the ceremony, two of whom were Amy and I,” Rupert once said.

The couple doesn’t talk much about their marriage in public, but they are practically inseparable and prone to public displays of affection on the red carpet. In 2018, the famous actor only briefly commented that his wife is his biggest supporter: “Amy is invaluable to me in every way and will be of great help in every project of mine.”

Malnis once pointed out that for her the word “disabled” is like shackles. “My problem with the word ‘disabled’ is that we use it to describe a human being, especially a child. You know, I think there are certain words that shouldn’t be used to describe a person, and we’ve certainly come far enough with technology that our language can evolve, because I want to meet a child who thinks, ‘Wow, what can I do with my new leg?'”
