On the part of the Niš – Dimitrovgad highway, between Pirot and Stanicenje, outside the populated area, at 4:36 p.m., a tank wagon loaded with ammonia overturned.

There were no casualties or injuries in the extraordinary event. It is a freight train that runs daily on this section, transporting raw materials from Bulgaria to Prahovo and Šabac. The freight composition included twenty tank wagonswhich are owned by Elixir, writes in the announcement of Railway Transport “Srbija Cargo”.

Teams of the Ministry of Interior, as well as members of the fire service of the Emergency Situations Sector, came to the scene, and closed the approach to the place of the slide within a radius of four kilometers.

Rail traffic is currently suspended. The joint railway commission for the investigation of extraordinary events of the Railway Infrastructure of Serbia and Serbia Karga will determine the cause of this accident.

Let’s remind you that due to at least one tanker with ammonia sliding off the railway tracks on the Pirot – Bela Palanka line, both road and rail traffic on this section was suspended, and the population is urged not to leave their homes to avoid poisoning.

On the occasion of the unfortunate event, the MUP announced and advised citizens to stay at home.
