BUDVA – The men’s chess team of Serbia won the gold medal at the European Championship in Budva, after tonight in the last, ninth round, they defeated Greece with a score of 3:1.

Serbia won 15 points, the same as second-placed Germany. However, Serbia was awarded the gold based on additional criteria. The third place was won by the selection of Armenia with 13 points.

The Chess Federation of Serbia announced on social media that the historic success of Serbia was brought by: Aleksej Sarana, Aleksandar Predke, Aleksandar Inđić, Robert Markuš and Velimir Ivić, reports Tanjug.

The female chess players of Serbia were defeated by Azerbaijan 3:1 in the last round, and in the end they won the eighth place with 11 points. The gold medal went to Bulgaria with 16 points, while Azerbaijan was second with 15. France reached the bronze with 12 points.

Teodora Injac, Adela Velikić, Marina Gajčin, Tijana Mandura and Jovana Erić performed for the selection of Serbia.
