The opposition in Novi Sad is negotiating how and in how many columns it will go to the elections: During that time, the number of voters in this city is increasing – Elections 2024

--

After tomorrow’s meeting, the opposition in Novi Sad will decide how and in how many columns it will participate in the upcoming local elections in this city.

The events in the opposition bloc in Belgrade also affected relations in other cities, especially in Novi Sad, where the elections in December showed that this is also a city where the opposition has something to hope for.

The parties from the coalition Serbia against violence should have a meeting tomorrow in Novi Sad regarding the participation in the local elections. As they say, after that they will announce their final position.

The Novi Sad committee of the Freedom and Justice Party says that they made a “difficult decision to go to the elections in this city”, despite the boycott of SSP, Serbia Center and Zajedno in Belgrade.

– We believe that boycotts would be a better solution, but we want to maintain unity within the coalition and reduce negative emotions among citizens. We are entering the election process, but we will see how everything will proceed. One of the main reasons why we decided to go to the elections is the intention to take all possible measures to prevent election theft, but also to document election theft, which we certainly and unfortunately expect. We will also monitor whether SNS has an iota of will to sort out the voter list, and that will affect all our further decisions. It is our opinion that one column would be the most effective solution and that is what SNS in Novi Sad is most afraid of – said Vladimir Vrsajkov from GO SSP in Novi Sad.

The Movement for the Restoration of the Kingdom of Serbia, which is now part of the right-wing opposition coalition NADA, but which for years was a coalition partner of the Serbian Progressive Party in Novi Sad, says that their response will be made public within two days.

Earlier, they announced that if the legitimate demands of the opposition regarding the minimum conditions for free elections are met, which means the removal from the voter list of false voters who by law do not have the right to vote because their residences are not valid, the opening of the media for all electoral lists equally and the holding of elections in Novi Together with the elections in Belgrade, they will go to the elections in Sad and other cities. If this is not fulfilled, it will not.

The City Committee of the League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina – Vojvodina citizens will also make a decision tomorrow about going to the local elections in Novi Sad. As we know, the Novi Sad board is negotiating a joint performance with certain opposition parties.

LSV- Vojvodina in Novi Sad has a burden, as they called it “communal coalitions”, with the Serbian Progressive Party, so it remains to be seen with whom and how they will manage to negotiate a coalition agreement.

The position of the electoral headquarters of the Novi Sad committee of this party is that conditions have not improved, that the representation of opposition parties in the media is not better, that the democracy of these elections will also be questionable, but also that waiting for conditions to improve cannot change this harmful government.

The Novi Sad committee of the Zajedno party was closer to going to the polls and is currently organizing a campaign to register phantom voters in Novi Sad.

The participation in the elections in Novi Sad was announced by the Movement of Free Citizens, the People’s Movement of Serbia, the Green-Left Front, the Ecological Uprising, and the Democratic Party, but it should be taken into account that some of the votes may also be brought by local organizations such as the Action of Progressive Vojvodina if they decide to participate in the elections. , but also “Be a hero” by Misha Bachulov who announced that he is running for the elections.

The civil movement Bravo has already announced that it will be on the ballot and presented its candidates.

The opposition in Novi Sad varied between one column, then two (civic and right), while even three (SPN, left and right) were mentioned.

The main argument of those who want to go to the elections, despite the fact that SNS has no intention of improving election conditions, is the fact that elections in Novi Sad have not been held since 2016, because there was a boycott in the previous ones as well.

Thus, in addition to these eight, Novi Sad would certainly be under the rule of the SNS for the next four years.

In the elections in December, out of 212 polling stations, “Serbia against violence” won 112 seats in the capital of Vojvodina, the coalition around the Serbian Progress party won 98 seats, while the result was tied in two seats. Less than two years ago (2022), the opposition won the elections in 40 polling stations in Novi Sad.

The list “Aleksandar Vučić – Serbia must not stop” won 78,771 (39.1) votes in Novi Sad in December, while “Serbia against violence” won 68,397 (33.9) Novi Sad voters. If there were local elections, the NADA coalition would have passed the census with 12,600 (6.2 percent) votes, Branimir Nestorović’s list with 11,000 (5.4) and the Socialist Party of Serbia with 8,000 votes (4.01).

Will Novi Sad have 5,000 new voters by the time of the election?

As it says 021. rs 340,817 voters were registered in Novi Sad by April 19, which continued the growth of the number of people who will be able to vote in the upcoming elections.

In four months, more than 1,200 people were registered in the electoral register.

Before the December elections, around 3,000 people were deleted from the voter list in Novi Sad during October and November, and the same number of people were added to the list a few days after the elections on December 17.

In the republican elections in December, more than 337,000 voters had the right to vote in Novi Sad, and now that number has increased by more than 3,500.

If the current trend of registration in the voter list and deletion from it due to death continues, it could be expected that there would be about 5,000 newly registered voters in Novi Sad compared to the December elections.
