In the midst of the campaign, the mayor in his technical mandate arrived to revitalize family daysone of his old ideas, which proved so good last year that Šapić decided to increase its scope and extend it from two days to two months

The outgoing mayor of Belgrade, Aleksandar Šapić, is not officially a new candidate for mayor for now, but he has certainly started campaigning, just in case. It’s not even a real campaign, it’s more like a campaign. There are still many unknowns surrounding the election, but it is better to campaign than to wait for victory to fall from the sky, although many agree that perhaps the most effective campaign for Šapić would be to have no campaign, or even not to advertise at all before the election.

The former mayor used to base his campaigns mainly on publicly bullying his subordinates and arguing with journalists, but that tactic didn’t exactly turn out to be the best way to win votes, on the contrary. It seems that the citizens don’t really like to see that you don’t manage to fix a broken pipe or a burning bus, because you are arguing with journalists, so this time the president of the temporary body of the city of Belgrade decided to focus the campaign a little better, so that this time people know exactly about what is or, in his case, rather – what is he against. Except for journalists, of course.

For starters, he hit a well-known and very easy target, the LGBT population. Continuously, in more or less every performance, Šapić found a way to introduce this topic, in order not to once again emphasize his intolerance towards that part of his fellow citizens. Just so that someone doesn’t accidentally think something terrible, let’s say he is ready to tolerate them.

That topic was just a warm-up, because today people’s attention spans quickly fade away, so you have to “work it up”, change the story in order not to keep them. So Šapić moved from the living to the dead, specifically to one dead person, the one who lives in the House of Flowers. Šapić came up with the idea of moving Josip Broz Tito to Kumrovec because there are, well, smarter things that can stand there, such as a museum about Serbian history. As if there isn’t already one, and it’s extremely close to Šapić’s workplace, but what’s wrong, there are never enough historical museums. It is not known whether Šapić would have allowed the history that happened to us under Tito to be part of the exhibition in that museum or whether he would have completely deleted it, but there would certainly not be room for his grave. You can think, the president of Yugoslavia, and even a Croat. Imagine if he was also gay, and Šapić’s horror would be complete.

Spending money from the budget in the interest of citizens is an outdated concept, only for poor countries. Šapić went one step further, spending to annoy people. He can. And if you don’t like it, you can go to Kumrovec with Joža

In the midst of the campaign, the mayor in his technical mandate arrived to revitalize family days, one of his old ideas, which proved so good last year that Šapić decided to increase its scope and extend it from two days to two months. Okay, honestly, that’s not why he extended it, but don’t spread the word. Last year it was a debacle, but Šapić was a little offended that the ill-wishers were laughing then, so he decided to extend the event for two months in spite of them.

He has money and it doesn’t come out of his pocket, so he wouldn’t cause those traitors, as he said, a “nervous breakdown” when they see that family days, the days of that most important cell of society, last as long as two months? Now, why? family days exactly different from the other days of the year when families are also there, all around us, technically the mayor did not explain. It is also unknown since when these city manifestations are made to annoy some part of the citizens, but if we had to interpret, it could actually show how fantastic the city budget is. Spending money from the budget on things that are in the interest of the citizens is a slightly outdated concept for poor countries. We, the rich, have gone a step further, spending money to annoy each other. Because we can. And if you don’t like it, you can go to Kumrovec with Joža.
