The case of a mother who was angered by an educational program on Radio Belgrade

--

As it says FakeNews Tracker, a professor at the Faculty of Science and Mathematics in Novi Sad, Dr. Biljana Basarin, presented in the Radio Belgrade 1 program the goals of the “Clear Climate” project, which provoked a (as she describes herself) “Serbian woman” and “mother of a large family, pure before God to this issue” to send scientists who strive to clarify burning questions about climate change to “dust and ashes”. How did this conflict come about?

What did Professor Basarin say?

In a statement to Radio Beograd 1, Dr. Basarin explained how the “Clear Climate” project seeks, with the help of experts in the field of communication and linguistics, to find the most effective way to explain to people in our environment what climate change is and what our influence is on it.

She said the following on that occasion:

“Climate change is something that is happening and has happened in the past. However, our impact on climate change with our way of life, with the use of fossil fuels, is much greater than it should be, so we have an increase in air temperature, which leads to an increase in some extreme climate events that happen to us year after year in increasing numbers. And somehow, we don’t see enough or we don’t understand enough, that we are actually to blame for such things”.

And this is exactly what provoked the author on the Struggle for Truth portal. “No, NOT A SINGLE SERBIAN CHILD WHO HAS BEEN LISTENING TO THESE SCIENTIFICLY UNBASED ACCUSATIONS IS NOT GUILTY FOR THESE CHANGES! AND I AM NOT GUILTY either!!!” it is stated in the text of this portal.

Who is to blame for climate change?

The pronoun “we” in Professor Basarin’s statement can be interpreted in two ways, and both would be correct. If by “we” we mean humanity – it is unequivocally true that it is responsible for climate change.

If we think about ourselves, as individuals, it is again unequivocally true that each of us contributes, including the reader and her children.

The biggest responsibility in that complex system is certainly borne by large corporations, but also by political elites who, for the sake of immediate profits, postpone the adoption of necessary measures.

In this sense, while we observe how much damage the big polluters are doing, it may seem petty that someone scolds us for using a plastic straw or flying an airplane. However, even though our harmful activities seem like a “drop in the ocean”, that ocean is made up of billions of similar drops. FakeNews Tracker.

Although indirectly, the author almost certainly contributes to the climate changes that are happening to us, just like every human being on planet Earth. If she has never sat in a car, doesn’t use electricity, doesn’t buy clothes, if she doesn’t heat herself in the winter by burning materials that pollute the environment, and in the summer she doesn’t cool down with an air conditioner, FakeNews Tragač sends her a sincere apology.

In that case, it may not be her fault. However, if, like the vast majority of people on our planet, use the various benefits brought to us by the industrial revolution – a part of the blame falls on her, as well as on all of us.

The industrial revolution brought us numerous benefits – from faster and easier transportation to mass production. However, the key to its success lay in the burning of fossil fuels.

They are actually the resource that has allowed us to travel faster by trains and cars and to mass produce everything we need in factories. We still haven’t given them up, which has increased the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by 50% compared to the period before the industrial revolution and disrupted the Earth’s natural carbon cycle (circulation of carbon dioxide in nature).

This is why we are facing climate change today and it is an undeniable scientific fact that is worth making shows about. Especially youth shows.

Milanković as an excuse

“Why don’t you make a show about Milutin Milanković, who calculated the cyclical nature of climate change – we are in the middle of an interglacial age. It is normal for the temperature to rise, due to the position of the Earth.”is a persistent author in the text Struggle for Truth.

Apart from the fact that Radio-television of Serbia published numerous articles and recorded shows about our famous scientist Milutin Milanković, the fact that according to his interpretations it is normal for the temperature of the planet to rise is just another manipulative narrative of climate skeptics.

FakeNews Tragač has already written about this kind of misinterpretation of Milanković’s theories about long-term climate changes, better known as Milanković’s cycles. It is true that the Earth is in an interglacial period, that is, a period of mild climate between two ice ages.

However, contrary to the claims from the Struggle for Truth text, this means that the Earth, according to Milankovic’s cycles, should gradually cool, not warm, “continuing the long-term cooling trend that began 6,000 years ago,” according to the NASA website.

That Milanković’s cycles cannot explain the current climate changes that we have been facing for about 200 years, but only those related to the Ice Age and appearing in cycles of 10 or even 100 thousand years, have been confirmed in various texts by domestic and foreign experts on climate and its changes.
