FORCA: EU WILL NOT CHANGE STANDING THAT SERBIA MUST RECOGNIZE KOSOVO’S INDEPENDENCE

BELGRADE, APRIL 23 /SRNA/ – Professor from Belgrade Union University “Nikola Tesla” Božidar Forca said in a statement to SRNA that the EU will not change its unequivocal position that Serbia must recognize the independence of self-proclaimed Kosovo.

Forca, who is a retired general, points out that Washington determines how the EU “marches”, and points out that the EU does not have a consensus, at least on the issues that hurt Serbia, which relate to the admission of self-proclaimed Kosovo to the Council of Europe and the initiation of the initiative for a resolution on Srebenica in to the UN General Assembly. He also pointed to the fact that the EU foreign ministers recently adopted changes to the text of the negotiating chapter 35 for Serbia on Kosovo and Metohija, which means that the Ohrid Agreement will be included in it as a condition for Serbia’s admission to the EU. “So, the EU unequivocally stands on the position that Serbia must recognize an independent Kosovo. We must return to our national values, interests and goals,” said Forca. According to him, Serbia has two opposing national interests, officially established – the first is sovereignty and independence and territorial integrity, and the second is membership in the EU, which now does not go with each other. Speaking about the EU’s attitude towards the cosmetic crisis, Forca, on the eve of the meeting on the “cosmetic crisis and strategic challenges of Serbia” organized by the Eurasian Security Forum, said that, from a scientific point of view, the question arises as to what the EU is, and reminds that when the crisis began provisionally taken from 1999, the EU had 15 members, 25 in 2004, and 27 in 2007. “Today there are 27 members, and tomorrow who knows”, Forca added, and pointed out that not when talking about EU countries, that is, not the whole EU, but sometimes about the whole EU as an institution. As for EULEX, Forca says that EULEX magically came to Kosovo and Metohija, and that its role was otherwise minor, if not counterproductive when it comes to Serbia.
