According to the World Happiness Report, Serbia is the country with the biggest jump in happiness among the population in the period from 2010 to today.
In the last 2 years alone, we have jumped on the list by an incredible 69 positions, and the biggest increase is recorded among young people.
Right behind us on the list are Bulgaria, Latvia, Congo, Romania, China, Georgia, Lithuania, the Philippines and Togo.
Young people are happier
On the occasion of the International Day of Happiness, a new World Report on Happiness was published, which includes the results of a survey on the life satisfaction of Serbian residents. According to this report, in the period between 2021 and 2023, Serbia recorded the biggest jump on the annual well-being barometer among 143 countries, increasing its position by 69 places compared to the previous research period from 2006 to 2010.
The authors of the research, conducted by “Gallup” in cooperation with the University of Oxford, the Welfare Research Center and the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network, state that this result is partly a consequence of Serbia’s high position on the list of the happiest nations in the category of young people under thirty. Young people from Serbia took third place in the world, right behind Lithuania and Israel.
However, the elderly “spoil” that average and in the general score, Serbia, in the period from 2021 to 2023, ranks 37th on the list of the happiest countries.
We asked young people if they were happy At the end of March this year, the Republika team asked young people from Belgrade if they were happy, and their answers were almost identical. – I am happy, I have good friends, family, grades, mother, father and so on – Uroš (18) – Yes, I am happy, we came back from the competition and won numerous prizes and I am happy for my students – Maja (28) – I am happy because my football club entered the Champions League play-offs, so we pushed it properly – Matija (18) – Yes, I am happy for my family, I am glad that everyone is with me and that we live together, of course because my friends and dear people who surround me. I can’t wait for the sea, the weather is beautiful, so those are some of the reasons – Tijana (21) – I’m happy because I’m healthy and because I train every day, it fulfills me. Everything else, let’s say money, it doesn’t make me so happy. It is an important thing, but it comes naturally, and when you are healthy you have everything Željko (18) – I am happy because of my family and friends who surround me and also because of my cat – Aleksandar (21)
