“There is something that Americans simply cannot do, unlike Serbs” – with these words, sitting on a bench on Kalemegdan, a guy from America begins his video, who after visiting our country was amazed by Belgrade, but also by Čačak.

Bas Buij, an American who introduces himself on TikTok as “basgoesofff” where he says he learns something new about the world every day, recently visited Belgrade and Serbia and admitted that he is delighted with our country.

“Question for Americans? Where do you go when you want to drink beer? Park, small bench, no? Well, do you know that Serbs drink beer on a bloody battlefield. In a place that survived 115 wars, which is almost older than Jesus Christ, and where ancestors laid down their lives. This is a huge fortress in the middle of Belgrade that the Serbs turned into a beautiful park,” he said while enthusiastically filming Kalemegdan.

According to him, Bograd is better than any city in America.

“It’s sad how underrated he is”

“As I said, it is a city that has survived 115 wars. It is one of the oldest and most militant cities in the world. In it you have various architectural styles – medieval, Christian, Austrian…

“Beograd simply merged all styles into itself and honestly, it’s sad how underrated it is,” he said in his second video.

A wonderful evening in Čačak

Apart from Belgrade, the boys also visited Čačak.

“My friend and I also visited other cities. We were driving through Serbia without a plan and decided to spend the night in the first town we came across and it was Čačak. People actually came up to us and asked us exactly what we were doing there.

They were so surprised to see us, however what happened next was even better. Namely, we decided to have a drink at a local bar and we didn’t know if we were welcome, but the owner quickly assured us that we were! He was so honored that we visited his place that he bought us a drink. We also spent a wonderful evening with some Serbs who were so delighted that we were there that they treated us to a few drinks.

In places like Paris or London you are one of a million people, but in a small town like this, you will be accepted as friends and you will have the opportunity to talk to wonderful people,” he concluded.
