They come to us with a 10-centimeter tumor in their chest

The Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia (IORS) has an increasing number of patients, but among them are not only new ones, but also those who live longer with malignant diseases and come to be checked, he said today at the biggest health conference “Health up”. Professor Dr. Davorin Radosavljević, director of the Internal Oncology Clinic at IORS. Among the patients are all age groups, and what is worrying is that more and more patients are coming with large tumors. If they came with a small one, the treatment results would be much better.

– We really have an increasing number of patients, but not only those patients who come and go, but, thanks to the increasing effectiveness and availability of drugs, we have an increasing consumption of drugs, but also patients who live longer and longer. We have about 14,000 patients in total at the oncology institute annually – said prof. Dr. Davorin Radosavljević at the “Health up” conference.

200 receptions every day

Of that number, he added, between 2,000 and 3,000 newly diagnosed patients receive chemotherapy annually.

– But the number of those who come to us is greater. I will tell you something that is even more plastic, and that is that we have at the internal oncology clinic through different forms, 200 receptions every working day – said prof. Dr. Davorin Radosavljević.

He also reminded that age, in itself, does not represent a special risk factor.

– Over the age of 80, those scores are also taken into account, the factors, therefore, which are calculated, in order to calculate the risk. Stadium? We are very dissatisfied when it comes to the stages. At the end of my working life, I have to say that there is optimism on all sides when it comes to innovative medicines. That is not disputed at all. But even those drugs, all drugs would work better if we had fewer big ones tumorsthat is, more small tumors. It is a cry for the disease to be detected at an early stage. We have patients who come with 10 cm tumors in the thorax! – warned Dr. Radosavljević.

Earlier detection, more effective treatment

He pointed out that it is a really insidious disease, but it also takes a long time for the disease to develop and it is impossible that we cannot operate on smaller tumors.

– The effects of treatment would certainly be greater in one disease state – he pointed out.

Doctor Radosavljević concluded at the end that survival with innovative drug therapy doubles now.
