Who from the opposition will participate in the local elections for now? – Elections 2024

--

While there is no unified decision of the opposition to participate in the Belgrade elections, there is no unity even within the parties regarding participation in the local elections, so it is still uncertain which parties and in which formats will participate in the elections in the other 88 cities and municipalities.

Although local elections have not yet been announced, the amendment to the Law on Local Elections has been accepted by the National Assembly, and certain parties have already announced their entry into the election race.

In addition to the Belgrade elections, all local elections will be attended by opposition parties gathered under the slogan “I choose the fight!” – Green-Left Front, Ecological Uprising, People’s Movement of Serbia, Movement of Free Citizens, New Face of Serbia and Democratic Party.

Today, the Kreni-Promeni movement also announced its participation in the Belgrade elections with Sava Manojlović as a candidate for mayor, while declared that he will make a decision on participating in the other local elections in the following days.

On the other hand, of the opposition parties that decided to boycott the Belgrade elections, the majority said that they would leave the decisions on going out to their local committees.

On this occasion, the president of the SSP Dragan Djilas said that he would leave the decision on running in the local elections to the city and local committees.

Thus, the Belgrade and Čačan SSP committees have already made the decision and will not participate in the local elections, while the president of the Niš committee, Jelena Milošević, stated that the decision on participation in the elections in that city has not yet been made.

The Srce Party is of the same opinion, but so far there has been no confirmation as to whether any committee, apart from the one from Novi Sad, will participate in the local elections.

In Novi Sad nevertheless came to a unique position of the majority of opposition parties, so the party Zajedno, Bravo, the Movement of Free Citizens, the National Movement of Serbia, the Heart Movement, the Green-Left Front, the Ecological Uprising, the Democratic Party, the “Be a Hero” association, and some other parties and movements will participate in the election race .

Although the “League of Social Democrats of Vojvodina – Vojvodina” was also mentioned as a participant in the election, today they are from LSV communicated that he will make a decision on participation in the coming days.

The new DSS also stated that it will not prevent local councils from going to the polls if they think it is the best option, although the party’s position is that they should be boycotted.

Although the board of the Zajedno party in Novi Sad is going to the elections, that party still favors the boycott, and judging by the exclusion of the Belgrade board due to the decision to participate in the elections in the capital, it is not certain whether any other board will go to the elections.

“We – the power of the people” by Branislav Nestorović she voted against amendments to the Law on Local Elections on Tuesday, although that group previously announced participation in local elections in a couple of cities, and then announced that they would participate only in Belgrade.

In Valjevo, a coalition with POKS was formed under the name “United Patriotic Opposition”, while in Zrenjanin, it was only announced that they would go to the polls.

The rest of the predecessor of the same name, “MI – Voice of the People”, led by Branko Pavlović, announced their participation in the Belgrade elections and started collecting signatures, but did not declare themselves about the other local elections.

Although the POKS board decided to participate in the elections in Valjevo, the party’s president, Vojislav Mihailović, said that one should not take part in election theft without concrete statements about the performances at the venue.

Serbian movement Dveri announced already at the beginning of the month that he will participate in the elections in Čačak, but also in all other municipalities and cities in Serbia, regardless of the decision of the leading opposition parties.

Back in January, Vladimir Gajić’s People’s Party announced its participation in the local elections in a coalition with Saša Radulović’s Enough is Enough movement, but as DJB left the coalition due to the inclusion of Velimir Ilić’s New Serbia, it is not certain in which format this party will participate in the local elections.

In Niš, the Freedom and Justice Party, Dveri, People’s Movement of Serbia, Green-Left Front, SRCE, Zajedno, Movement of Free Citizens, People’s Party, New Face of Serbia – “Nis, my city”, POKS, “I love Nis – Nis is wondering “, Enough is enough, “Niš, my city” – New DSS, the Democratic Party, the Social Democratic Party and the Political Platform Solidarnost have signed an Agreement on non-cooperation with the SNS, so we can expect the opposition’s appearance at the venue as well.

The group of citizens “Dr. Dragan Milić”, which is the only one that did not sign the Agreement on non-cooperation with SNS, has not yet decided whether it will participate in the elections on June 2, and as the president of the movement, Dragan Milić, announced, he will decide by the end of the week.
