Alarm on: Get ready for showers and thunderstorms

Meteorologist Slobodan Sovilj, head of the National Center for Hydrometeorological System, Early Announcements and Warnings in RHMZ, tells Blic that local short-term showers are expected today, which will be accompanied by thunder in some places.

“We do not expect severe storms in Serbia today. We do not expect thunderstorms to be frequent, nor to spread over most of the country, but from the middle of the day there will be sporadic occurrences of short-term showers with thunder. According to the forecast material, the greatest chance for transient short-term showers with thunder is on the stretch from Podrinje, through western, central Serbia, southern Vojvodina to the east. In that central zone there is the highest probability of showers, but it is not a storm,” said Slobodan Sovilj for Blic.

The Republic Hydrometeorological Institute of Serbia also announced

The first cloudy developments that will condition the local appearance of short-term rain or showers with thunder are expected already in the middle of the day in western Serbia, while later in the afternoon, except in the west, they will be frequent in the south of Vojvodina, in the central and eastern parts of the country.

The appearance of rain and local showers with thunder in the Belgrade area are expected after 2 p.m. The downpour will be short-term intense in some parts of the city, with the possibility of thunderstorms.

He expects that the first developments of short-term showers will begin in the morning hours, in the mentioned areas, and in the second part of the day, in the afternoon, there will be a little more of them.

“It is a slightly unstable spring day, and due to the local appearance of thunderstorms, a yellow weather alert is in effect. The same is true in the area of ​​Belgrade and other cities. We can expect short-term rain or showers with thunder in the middle of the day, and then there will be a few sunny days again. intervals. Later in the afternoon, a new short-term shower is expected, so the changeable character of the weather awaits us today,” says Sovilj.

According to him, there is a higher chance of thunderstorms in the central part of the country, and the lowest in the south and southeast of Serbia.

“Today you should bring an umbrella because of local short-term rain or showers, but we will not have precipitation that will last for hours. The wind was much stronger yesterday, yesterday we had an east, southeast wind and a one-day Kosava situation, but today it is significantly weaker, only in certain localities a little stronger. Tomorrow it will be even weaker,” says the meteorologist.
