Serbia is getting richer with another 108 kilometers of high-speed rail, which will travel at 200 kilometers per hour. Testing of the newly built high-speed railway on the section Novi Sad – Vrbas Nova (station) began yesterday and will last until April 27, 2024.

See what the testing of a section of the high-speed railway looks like, recorded by a reporter of the Vojvodina portal live:

During the test, high-speed trains will move at a speed of 200 km/h on the section Novi Sad – Vrbas Nova, and the contact network above the high-speed railway on the said section will be under a voltage of 25 kV, so it is extremely dangerous to get close to it. During this period, it is forbidden to cross the railway during testing for the safety of people and property.

Chronology of works

After testing the complete railway from Novi Sad to Subotica, it is planned that during the summer the Dutch company will carry out the certification for the European Union standard, and in the first half of September the technical acceptance of the railway will be carried out.

It is planned to build 12 railway stations, 13 bridges, 31 culverts, 3 uneven crossings, 54 level crossings, 11 underpasses, 27 overpasses, 2 pedestrian and bicycle paths, and the most significant architectural objects are station buildings in Novi Sad and Subotica. . The high-speed railway from Belgrade to Budapest is the most important project in the “Belt and Road” initiative.

The contractor is a Chinese consortium, and the railway will be electrified and equipped with modern signaling and safety devices. There will be no road crossings on the entire section of the high-speed railway Belgrade – Novi Sad – Subotica – Kelebija.

Railways in Vojvodina
