The piece “Disappearing” premiered at Atelier 212

The premiere of the play “Disappearing” based on the text by Tomislav Zajec, directed by Sanja Mitrović, will be held on Saturday, April 27 at 8 p.m., on the “Mira Trailović” Stage in the Atelje 212 Theater.

“Disappearing” is a story about the relationship between parents and children, about the position of children in the education system, about the adult world that ignores them and, above all, about child abuse.

The play is set in the intellectual upper middle class of the Croatian citizenry, where university professors, artists, scientific researchers, the police… almost all representatives of society participate in the complex of intimate relationships and legal offenses in the abuse of children. The story follows the actions of two families in parallel, the family of the victim and the family of the abuser, thus building a dynamic dramatic plot rich in very strong characters and conflicts, twists and turns and emotions.

Tomislav Zajec is one of the most prominent contemporary Croatian playwrights and playwrights. His plays have won multiple awards and have been performed in Croatia and abroad. Zajec is a professor at the Zagreb Academy of Dramatic Arts, an external associate playwright at the Zagreb Youth Theater, a playwright, screenwriter, prose writer… He is a six-time winner of the “Marin Držić” award for dramatic writing, as well as a two-time winner of the “Marul” award at the Marulić Days.

“Disappearing” will be the first performance of a piece by this author in Serbia. This play had its premiere in January of this year on the big stage of the Croatian National Theater in Zagreb.

Sanja Mitrović is a theater author, director, performer and directing professor from Brussels. She directed and performed plays throughout Europe and America. Her projects have been performed in famous theaters and festivals: Schaubühne (Berlin), Kunstenfestivaldesarts (Brussels), Wiener Festwochen and Tanzquartier (Vienna), BITEF Theater (Belgrade), Theater Spektakel (Zurich), SPRING Performing Arts Festival (Utrecht)… Winner has received several awards for his work, such as the Dutch Theater Institute BNG Nieuwe Theatermakers Prijs award for the play Will You Ever Be Happy Again? and for the same piece she was nominated for the prestigious Prix D’Jardin Europe.

The play “Disappearing” stars Svetozar Cvetković, Dejan Dedić, Dubravka Mijatović, Milica Janevski, Jelena Ilić, Branka Petrić, Natalija Stepanović and Đuro Brstina.

The play’s author team consists of set designer Jasmina Holbus, costume designer Boris Čakširan, composer Marija Balubdžić and playwright Dimitrije Kokanov.
