Local thunderstorms have already hit Belgrade, announced the RHMZ. As stated, hail is also expected in some places.
In the next 2 hours, showers with thunder will be intense for a short time with the local appearance of hailstorms in the area of western Serbia, Šumadija and in certain parts of Belgrade, the RHMZ warning states.
Professor of the Faculty of Physics Dr. Vladimir Đurđević pointed out that the most important thing is to get out of the open space.
It is best to enter a brick building. If your house or building is not nearby, it is good to stay in a closed car.
Semi-open spaces, such as canopies or bus stops, are not good lightning protection. Do not stand next to electric poles or tall trees. If you really have nowhere to hide – crouch!
“It is best to follow the weather forecast and if a storm or thunderstorm is forecast for the afternoon, in that case we should not plan activities that we can postpone, so that we can be safe, i.e. near some closed building or house where we can stay let’s hide it – explained Professor Đurđević.
Contrary to popular belief, it is perfectly safe to use a cell phone during thunderstorms. Of course, if you are indoors. However, you should stay away from landlines!
– In the event of a lightning strike, that energy can pass through the lines and reach the handset. So if you’re indoors, feel free to use your cell phone during the storm. It is not a good idea to charge a mobile phone because the device can be damaged – notes Professor Đurđević.
Rubber shoes are recommended especially for those who work outdoors, in the field for example, because they represent a form of insulation. So, if “something terrible happens”, as Dr. Đurđević says, the consequences will be less.
