The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, continues his talks with representatives of United Nations member states in New York. He also considers their restraint a success. Analysts also agree with that. Vučić also spoke with UN Secretary General António Guterres.

Among the 193 countries that have the right to vote in the UN General Assembly, there are 84 African and Latin American and Caribbean countries. With more than half of those countries, the President of Serbia has already spoken in New York. It was the turn of the representatives of Asia and the Pacific countries.

– When you do something, then the “big ones” start threatening and pressuring, and those who were against and know everything, understand everything, become reserved. It is important that we have more abstentions and votes against than for. If we succeed, even though we formally lost, it would be a heroic political success – said Vučić.

Whatever the outcome, the president of the Serbian Parliament, Ana Brnabić, points out, the struggle and courage shown by Serbia and its president will be appreciated. The resolution on Srebrenica is the imposition, he points out, of the most difficult moral, political and legal qualifications for Serbia and the Serbian people, and Serbia must oppose this.

– We will appeal to all libertarian countries to join us in this, because it is enough for you to impose an agenda as a big and powerful one that is contrary to the procedure of BiH itself, contrary to the Dayton Agreement, the Constitution of BiH, without consultation in the Presidency of that country, without consultation in the region, without consultation in the UN – stressed Brnabić.

Belgrade’s resistance to attempts to question the position of the Serbian people will surely give results regardless of the outcome of the vote, career diplomat Zoran Milivojević believes. It will confirm that Serbia has a significant international position.

– The very fact that Serbia is resisting, that it meets some understandings, that there will definitely be votes against and those who abstained, already means the success of Serbia and Serbian politics in defending state and national interests, and I think that is the essence – says Milivojević .

Milovan Drecun, a member of the Serbian Parliament, pointed out the importance of meetings with representatives of the countries that decide in New York. The resolution, if voted, will not lead to reconciliation, the goal, he says, is to portray the Serbian people as criminals.

– It is clear to the majority of humanity that genocide did not happen and that it is a political view of those events in Srebrenica with certain intentions, the question is whether that majority will be ready to say “no, genocide did not happen” – says Drecun.

The resolution on Srebrenica, if adopted, will not have a binding character, especially not for Serbian historians, claims historian Miloš Ković. But it should wake up the Serbian people to lose the last illusion of how the political West sees us and to make our decisions accordingly.

– This example also shows that the support of Russia and China is crucial for us. That is a lesson – emphasizes Ković.

Binding or not, the intention of the sponsors of the resolution, according to experts, is to open up the issue of the Dayton Agreement and to direct future politics and the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the direction of revising this agreement in accordance with its spirit, not its letter.
