For me, the sacred is what I swore to the people

--

THE PRESIDENT of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said from New York that he and his colleagues did a great job for our country at the UN.

– Today we had the largest and most important meeting for us with the Asia-Pacific group of countries, with a huge presence of those who co-sponsored the resolution and those who oppose it and many who express reservations. I think that the conversation with those people went in an honest and somewhat emotional way. I think we have explained all the reasons that are important, which is primarily regional stability, much more than the procedural issues themselves. And Serbia has respect. I believe that many countries, even the Chinese representative and the Emirati representative and many others have spoken about the need to consider further harmonization of positions and to go for more intensive and inclusive consultations, so it is possible to move. However, it depends neither on them nor on us, but on those who submitted the resolution. What we see is that the pressure on small countries is more and more noticeable and stronger.

Vučić says that the pressure on small countries to vote for the Resolution on Srebrenica is becoming more noticeable and stronger.

– We are, after all, a small country and it is not easy for us to stand up to that, but I think that we did a great job for our country in the UN, we fought for our people. That’s what we can do. I had a meeting with representatives of Brazil, we have a meeting with Guterres… – he said.

He added that many spoke about the need to consider further harmonization of positions, to work on consultations in the future, but that does not depend on them or us, but on the submitter of the Resolution.

– After yesterday’s meetings with the representatives of the countries of the African and South American and Caribbean groups in the UN, today I informed the countries from the Asia-Pacific group about our fight for truth, law and justice and to preserve the libertarian and proud spirit of the Serbian people. I warned of the consequences and irreparable damage that the adoption of the resolution on Srebrenica can have on the stability and future of the Western Balkans, respect for international public law, but also on the credibility of the UN itself, as a guarantor of peace and legal order in the world – he said.

He reminded that when Pristina abolishes the dinar, then Lajcak says that “neither side is ready to accept a compromise”.

– We will continue our fight in a difficult day. We are too small for the most powerful Western powers, but you can’t always win the truth by force. That still means something to us – added Vučić.

– I am not optimistic and I knew from the beginning that it was an almost impossible mission. But the fact that something is an impossible mission and that something seems impossible does not mean that you may not fight, because what you guard and defend and what you swore to your people and citizens is sacred and most important to you in life, and not fear before the force and power of those who are much bigger and stronger.

He explained that Slovenia leads a disgusting policy towards Serbia and the Serbian people.

– I said that the Slovenians were disgusting when they thought about the Security Council session, that was the topic and it was clear to everyone that it was referring to the individual who spoke about it and it was referring to their politics. But here, I’ll repeat, it’s not a problem for me, it’s certainly not the vocabulary that should be used, but I said humanly what I think about their policy. As for the Slovenes, the fact that they wanted to say that I said that about the Slovenes, no, I think the best about the Slovenes as a people. I have many friends, I have family, I have family in Slovenia. I took the fact that I should not come to Slovenia so often as a threat and I will reduce my visits to my friends and family, but if I offended anyone, I want to apologize to the entire public and the people of Slovenia, but not to politicians from Slovenia. Isn’t it terrible that they are sponsoring the resolution on Srebrenica, that they are threatening our territorial integrity? I will invite their president to Belgrade and Serbia if I need to apologize once more and say that I was not thinking of the Slovenians and their people – he said.

He said that as many as 81 countries attended our briefings, without reception.

– Even today, Syria, China and the Emirates also called, and I think Morocco and Turkey, which is a co-sponsor, and North Korea. It has now become a major topic at the UN. We heard that they are preparing a performance similar to the one they prepared for the UN Security Council, and they will invite the mothers of the victims from Srebrenica. And everything else, the usual folklore, nothing unusual. I think that in the end, the people of Serbia will certainly be sincerely proud of their country, its struggle and the love for the homeland that we all showed together. And someone wants to punish us for something that happened 29 years earlier, at a time when he needs it to explain his silence and inability to react on another issue. I think a huge number of countries understand that here. There will be a large number of abstaining countries. I think you understand that it is a David and Goliath fight.

He reminded that the Resolution had been prepared for the previous six months, without informing Serbia.

– You have countries that will vote for. They are literally on the verge of crying because they are going to vote that way. They have to because they belong to that religion and on the other hand they know how unfair it is to Serbia. Many will be restrained.

He reminded that Rwanda was voted without abstentions, no one abstained, and that now there will be dozens of abstentions and those who will be against.

He says that tonight he will have a joint headquarters with Belgrade where Brnabić and Dacić and everyone else will be involved.

– We sent emissaries all over the world. We are fighting. From Panama to Cambodia. Our people are everywhere. They carry my message, my letter. They talk to our hosts. One representative said yesterday that it is incredible that a small country managed to oppose it, that everyone in the UN is just talking about it, and that on the other side are all the most powerful countries in the world.

He added that he has the next meeting with the Chinese permanent representative.

When asked about the elections and the political situation in the country, he says that Vučević and Šapić, Glišić and Brnabić are also dealing with it.

– I will deal with those lists there after May 16, when the Council of Europe is over, when someone will say even after the defeat, and we will say that that defeat is certainly not what they intended for us and that we do not feel defeated, but let’s see and that result, so then we will be able to comment.
