Times journalist: Witness from the crime scene recognized Ulemek in the photo – Society

--

The Times newspaper published an article linking Milorad Ulemek Legija to the murder of British journalist Jill Dando on April 26, 1999 in front of her house in London. One woman, a witness, who happened to be near the crime scene and saw the man running away, said she recognized Legia in the photo, David Brown, a Times journalist, told N1.

“The photo from the crime scene is from a security camera and it’s quite blurry. Nevertheless, a comparison of the hairline, jaw, from that video with the photo of Milorad Ulemek Legija from that time was made. That witness saw a man fleeing the scene of the crime 25 years ago on that fateful night. When she was first shown a photo of Ulemek from that period on Tuesday night, she said she was sure it was the man she saw running from the scene of the killing of journalist Jill Dando. More precisely, she said – yes, that’s him,” said David Brown, a reporter for The Times, on Newsnight N1 info.rs.

David Brown also stated that it is not possible to claim 100% that it is Ulemek, but that “it cannot be ruled out that it is the same man”.

“A man named Barry George was convicted of the murder of Jill Dando, but after eight years the jury acquitted him. In Scotland Yard they said that they will not open the investigation again, but considering that there is also a former police officer who cannot rule out the resemblance to Ulemek, and that the witness stated that it is him, I assume that there will be political pressure in Britain to reopen the case again,” said the British journalist.

He also said that after the murder, “numerous motives” were considered for that crime and the murder of Jill Dando.

“Dendo participated in several researches on organized crime. It was considered that she was killed by gangsters, the IRA organization, and she was supposed to marry one of Queen Elizabeth’s gynecologists, so it was suspected that there was a connection there as well. There are many theories, but this is one of the biggest unsolved crimes in modern British history,” concluded David Brown, a journalist for The Times.
