The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said this evening that he had a meaningful and friendly conversation with the Permanent Representative of the People’s Republic of China to the UN, Zhang Djun, about the upcoming session of the UN General Assembly, where the resolution “International Day of Remembrance and Commemoration of the Srebrenica Genocide” will be discussed, and that he asked China to support Serbia’s position.

“I repeated that Serbia, although a small country, seriously approached the issue of war crimes committed on the territory of the former Yugoslavia and that it showed in a comprehensive way that no crime should go unpunished, with sincere reverence for the victims,” ​​Vučić said on his Instagram account. the future of Serbia”.

Vučić adds that he emphasized that China, led by President Xi Jinping, invests its enormous reputation and influence in the global arena on all issues in which the principles of the UN Charter represent the basis for equal treatment of all member countries.

“In this sense, I asked the respected interlocutor that this time too China will stand on the side of justice and support the position of Serbia. I especially thanked the permanent representative of the People’s Republic of China for the support of his great country, which he has provided to our Serbia in all international forums, as well as for the firm and unwavering respect for the fundamental principles on which the United Nations rests,” said Vučić.

Vučić is in New York, where on Monday evening he represented Serbia at the session of the UN Security Council, where the six-month report of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on the work of UNMIC was presented.

Before the session of the General Assembly at which the proposal for a resolution on Srebrenica should be considered at the UN headquarters, Vučić is holding consultations with representatives of UN member states in order to explain Serbia’s position on the announced resolution.
