“We know that preschool age is an unrepeatable age in the life of every child, a period in which the first knowledge is acquired and experiences are gained that will mark a person’s entire life. This is the period when the child socializes, intensively hangs out with peers and learns by playing. Preschool education prepares children for school and we are very grateful for this donation, which will provide furniture and equipment necessary for work in six kindergartens in Subotica,” said Violeta Vrcelj Odri, expert associate, pedagogue at PU “Naša radost” , Subotica.

“If we guide children towards learning from a young age, and at the same time encourage them to socialize and establish contacts with peers and people from the environment, we give them a healthy foundation for their whole life. As a father of three daughters whom I raised from a young age to learn and be educated and to be curious, I wanted to direct the donation to the future and at the same time support the local community in which the company “Voj put” has been operating for years,” said Goran Janković, director. “Voj put” company.

“Unicef” is committed to ensuring that children start learning at an early age, because a child’s brain develops the fastest then, while a child who does not attend preschool is at a greater risk of poor performance in school, repeating grades and dropping out of school. Investing in education is the best way to combat poverty and build a fairer society, and it is important to make preschool education available to every child. “Unicef” has the strength to unite different partners around the same goal, and we are all very grateful to “Voj put”, which in the last three years has supported various programs of “Unicef” with more than 10 million dinars,” said Jelena Kovačević from “Unicef” Serbia.

Symbolically named “The Soaring Years”, the preschool education and training program enables children to learn through play, gain confidence and develop important life skills, such as creativity, curiosity, perseverance, resilience, decision-making and communication and empathy. More than 21,300 educators, professional associates and directors were trained for the implementation of the new Fundamentals program.

A child’s brain develops at preschool age at a speed that our brains will never reach again, and participation in preschool education programs encourages learning and creates a solid foundation for further progress in life. That is why UNICEF is one of the partners of the Ministry of Education in efforts to increase coverage, develop the quality and fairness of preschool education in Serbia.

In our country, only 11% of children from the poorest households and only 7% of children in Roma settlements attend preschool education, and UNICEF continues to work in cooperation with partners to empower professionals from preschool institutions, as well as to equip kindergartens so that preschool education was available to all children throughout Serbia.
