Many of them remained to live in this city, which even these days, in cooperation with the republican authorities, solved the housing problem for some of them.

Namely, the Commissioner for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, Nataša Stanisavljević, and the Mayor of Sombor, Antonio Ratković, handed over contracts and keys to homes intended for six refugee families from BiH, Croatia and Kosovo.

– The Commissariat for Refugees and Migration continues with housing care for refugee families, those who have not yet found their permanent housing solution. Thanks above all to the excellent cooperation we have with the City of Sombor, six families got their homes. We visited one of the families who have their own permanent address as of today, and we will continue in 2024 with the housing care program for refugees who still do not have their permanent address in Serbia – said Commissioner Stanisavljević, praising the local self-government that participated in the improvement of living conditions and the purchase of houses and apartments, so that 173 families secured a roof over their heads by purchasing rural houses with a garden, building completely new houses and buying apartments, and support was also provided for the purchase of construction materials for 143 families.

Mayor Ratković thanked the Commissariat for its support and added that he was pleased with the fact that this program will continue in the future.

– All these years, the families of refugees and exiles who tried to build their new home right on the territory of our city, made a huge effort to assimilate in a completely new environment and provide their families with a normal life again. In cooperation with the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration of the Republic of Serbia, we are actively working to help them in this endeavor and with joint efforts ensure a roof over their heads and a secure future – said Mayor Ratković when awarding the contract.
