BELGRADE – Fishing in Serbia has enormous potential, especially in Vojvodina, and this sector will, through the IPARD 3 subsidy program, be supported through two measures – Measure 1 for investments in physical assets of agricultural farms, as well as Measure 3 for investments in physical assets related to processing and marketing of agricultural and fishery products.

The potential for the development of fisheries in Serbia is first of all reflected in over 100,000 hectares of land in Vojvodina that belong to lands of low fertility that are not used for any production, and which with relatively small investments could be turned into fishpond areas, which would not only rational use of such areas, but also after two decades their fertility would increase considerably.

“In addition, Serbia applies one of the most modern technologies for the production of carp based on extruded food, which results in twice the production compared to the technology used in European countries, which significantly contributes to the increase in carp production per unit area – often by over 100 percent.” Tanjug from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management was told.
