Today’s ceremony was attended by the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesić, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Serbia Li Ming, Mayor of Novi Sad Milan Đurić, President of Bačka Topola Municipality Adrian Satmari, Manager of the City of Subotica Zagorka Panić and representatives of the Chinese Embassy and China State Railway Group. Vucevic pointed out that today’s joining of the new track on the Novi Sad-Subotica section is proof of steely friendship between the Republic of China and Serbia.

This is something that shows in practice what the agreement of the leadership of the two countries means, what it means is the will to make even the most distant dreams, almost unattainable, come true, he said and added that he is proud of Serbia, which has the strength to together with its Chinese partners he hires over 2,000 people every day on this project.

According to him, this kind of project is a leap into the future.

It is the modernization of Serbia, without renouncing our tradition and history, our national, cultural identity. Serbia can succeed only with the merging of traditional values ​​and in the process of modernization, said Vučević.

He pointed out that we are connecting with our sincere friends from Hungary, which bravely represents and defends Serbian interests on the road to European integration, but also international public order and the peaceful coexistence of all countries and faith in the sovereignty of equals.

Vesić announced that this railway will be completed a year ahead of schedule and that its construction means that our country will be better connected by traffic and will become the backbone of Corridor Ten, which will become a corridor on which fast trains will run.

When the high-speed railway to Budapest is completed and when by the end of the year we start working on the new 230 kilometers of high-speed railway from Belgrade to Niš, we will start developing the high-speed railway towards Skopje and then Thessaloniki, so in the coming years we will have more than 1,500 kilometers of high-speed railway between Athens and Budapest. This will secure the future for the Western Balkans and put Serbia at the center of development – emphasized Vesić.

Li Ming expressed his gratitude to the Government of Serbia for the great care and support given to the construction of the Belgrade-Budapest railway, adding that, under the strategic leadership of the heads of the two countries, bilateral relations between China and Serbia continue to deepen, and that economic and trade cooperation is strong.

The high-speed railway from Belgrade to Budapest is one of the most important projects in our country. The Serbian section of the railway is 183.1 km long and 58 new bridges, 45 culverts were built on it, and one viaduct was reconstructed.

The railway will be electrified and equipped with modern signaling and safety devices. It is expected that, when the works on the Hungarian side are completed, it will take less than three hours to get from Belgrade to Budapest by train.
