The differences compared to other parts of Serbia are even more shocking

--

Apart from the fact that it has long been known that the economic differences between Belgrade and other regions in our country are very pronounced, recently published data from the Republic Institute of Statistics show that an educated man in the capital earns far more than an educated Belgrade woman, while the gap compared to the regions west, east and the south even more drastically. The difference in the earnings of a man from Belgrade with a university degree compared to, for example, a woman from Kragujevac with the same degree exceeds an incredible 106,000 dinars.

The latest data of the Republic Institute of Statistics by region, and according to the level of education and gender, may be the best answer to the question of why everyone is flocking to Belgrade. From those official state statistics, it is clear that higher education is not valued the same throughout Serbia, and the fact that you are a woman will obviously further “reduce” your salary.

But let’s start in order…

The average salary of a highly educated person in the Belgrade region is 158,655 dinars. When it comes to Vojvodina, its highly educated citizens earn an average of 117,051 dinars. Therefore, the difference between Belgrade and “fertile” Vojvodina is about 41,000 dinars, which is close to the minimum in Serbia.

However, the situation is significantly worse in the region of Šumadija and the region of Southern and Eastern Serbia. Thus, the average salary of an educated person in Šumadija is 94,526 dinars, while in the south and in Eastern Serbia that salary is 99,463 dinars. That is about 60,000 dinars less than in the capital.

However, the differences do not end here. They are even more pronounced in terms of gender, so it is not the same if you are an educated man or woman in Belgrade, as in other regions.

A highly educated man in Belgrade earns 195,166 dinars on average, and a woman earns 133,387 dinars, that is, about 62,000 dinars less.

When it comes to other regions, a man in Vojvodina who has a higher education earns 142,156 dinars, in Šumadija and Western Serbia 104,208 dinars. If he gets a job in the south or east of Serbia after college, he will earn 110,259 dinars.

On the other hand, an educated woman from Vojvodina has an average salary of 100,969 dinars. In the region of Šumadija and Western Serbia, a highly educated woman has 88,959 dinars, while in the south and east it has 91,504 dinars.

Based on these data, it can be concluded that an educated woman, for example in Kragujevac, with the same professional qualification, has a salary of 106,207 dinars less than men in Belgrade.

What are the average salaries from the north to the south of Serbia?

Large differences in wages between regions are also visible when it comes to average earnings, regardless of the level of education. According to the latest official data, the average salary in the Belgrade region for February was 118,351 dinars, i.e. slightly more than 1,000 euros.

In the Vojvodina region it was 88,885 dinars (about 750 euros), in Šumadija and the region in the west of Serbia it was 79,585 dinars (about 680 euros), and in the east and south of our country it was 80,947 dinars (about 690 euros).

Therefore, in other parts of the country, the average Serb earns 320 euros less than in Belgrade.
