EVERYTHING WILL BE ACCELERATED Less than 40 days until the election, and this is a move that will URGENTLY have to be taken by the leaders of municipalities and cities (VIDEO)

– As a result of the successful dialogue of the parliamentary parties, the conditions for calling elections in 66 local self-government units were met. The elections in these local self-governments will be held on the same day as the elections for councilors in the Belgrade City Assembly, ie on June 2 this year – said Brnabić.

She also said that she was glad that the parliament “sent a strong message to all citizens that, as their elected representatives, we are capable of talking and reaching an agreement despite all our differences”.

She called on all political actors to take care that politics should not and must not be a tool that separates people, and said that it is a common obligation to develop the political system in a democratic direction that promotes dialogue, mutual respect and greater understanding.

– As the President of the Assembly of Serbia, I will continue to insist that this highest representative body of all citizens of the Republic of Serbia respects and promotes exactly such values. I wish everyone a successful election – she said.

Changed legal deadlines

On April 23, MPs adopted amendments to the Law on Local Elections, which moved the deadlines for announcing elections, which was one of the demands of the opposition in the dialogue on improving election conditions, which was conducted since April 1.

The law stipulates that the decision to call local elections is made no earlier than 150 days, no later than 45 days before the end of the councilor’s mandate, and that no less than 30 and no more than 60 days can pass from the day local elections are called to the day of voting.

By adopting these amendments conditions were created for local and Belgrade elections to be held on the same day.
