Museum of winemaking and viticulture was created 24 years ago with the aim of preserving and nurturing objects that testify to the history of wine in the district Alexandrova parishbut also entire countries.

What stands out in particular when visiting this museum is that the spirit of the people who lived and worked in earlier times and what the craftsmanship was like was presented.

The story that the museum tells tells chronologically also the history of the Serbian people. Namely, the production of wine, especially in this region, also refers to the medieval Serbian state and Nemanjići, from which intensive cultivation of wine culture began in this part.

One of the most famous wines in Serbia are the parish wines that have been made in this region since ancient times and make one of the most famous Serbian brands with the predominant production of tamjanika and prokupac.

What does the Museum of Winemaking and Viticulture hide?

Museum of winemaking and viticulture is located at the address Dr. Milan Mirkovića 7. The space where the museum is located was created in 1926. At the time when the present building of the Museum was created, it was used for wine production processes, and the Viniculture and Orchard School was also founded there.

76 years after the construction of the space, this unique museum was created.

The museum has a large number of exhibition parts, each of which was created according to a certain historical, production or wine area.

Sections of the museum tell the story of Poljanska dvor, winemakers’ choir, vrionica, winemakers, history of winemaking, objects in the exhibition hall and Poljanas (business settlements).

  • Poljanski dvor it includes a permanent exhibition of objects that tell the story of winegrowing work, people, vineyards and meadows in Župa from the end of the 19th century.
  • Winery choir is another hall that has its own set-up, where, as stated on the website of this museum, there is the “Polyan furniture” collection, a special museum library, as well as an art collection in the gallery space.
  • Vryonica is something special for all wine connoisseurs. This is a place in a museum whose display shows the way of former wine processing in this area.
  • Winemakers – a special place in the museum is the window in which the names of winemakers and wineries from Župa are displayed. This space is also intended for wine tastings, conversations with winemakers…
  • Through the centuries – an area named so because it shows the development of viticulture in the Aleksandrovačka parish over the centuries.
  • Exhibition hall is a space in the museum where there are various objects that were used in the production of wine, which were located in the wine cellars. In addition to the objects, there are also pictures and documents of former winegrowing families.
  • Fields – in the museum, in addition to the exhibition part, you will also get information about the former fields, vineyards, houses and buildings with them, as something that is the root of this story and the beginning of the indispensable process of wine production – the places where their most famous wines are made.

This Alexandrova museum, with its detailed display of exhibits and stories about the past and present of one of the most famous wine-growing regions – Župi, is one of the most interesting and diverse thematic museums. Its importance goes beyond just the cultural framework, but also reaches other branches, especially the tradition and history of this region.

Aleksandrovačka parish has been known for centuries for growing vines and wine production, and in addition to this museum, the entire concept of viticulture in this municipality represents one of its essential forms. The tourist potential is also reflected in numerous wine events, but also in this apparently beautiful and really meaningful museum.
