This story, written in a letter of Saint Bishop Nikolaj Velimirović is a reminder to all of us about the importance of respecting parents.

It reads like this

“Son – don’t you son, as I cried today, so I cried to you on your happiest day!”

A mother’s curse to her son, born out of pain and despair, was fulfilled on his wedding day, which should have been his happiest. Death, which befell him as a result of a “stray” bullet, symbolizes the cost of disrespecting parents.

This story also confirms Christ’s words: “Honor your father and mother” and is a poignant reminder of the power of parental blessing and curse.

In addition to this curse, the most famous among the Serbian people is the Lazarus curse.

Although it is considered that the curse applies to the sixth generation, and that the seventh is freed, the curse of Lazarus is permanent, covenantal and universal.

A curse, as a verbal revenge, a warning is known in almost all nations. In some customs, there are accompanying rituals, but the significance of the curse always depends on the one who pronounces it. A strong curse if uttered by a strong person.

In Serbian history, the curse of Prince Lazar Hrebeljanović is one of the most important and powerful. Spoken as a call to Serbian heroes to participate in the Kosovo War, on Vidovdan, 1389, it was recorded in two epic poems of the Kosovo cycle.

In the song “Music Stevan”, the curse reads like this:

“Who is a Serb and of Serbian descent, and of Serbian blood and blood, and did not come to fight in Kosovo: He had no birth from the heart, neither male nor female!” Nothing was born from his hand,

September wine, not even Šenica white! Rusty cap’o, until his knees!”

More precisely, this is how Stevan Musić told his girlfriend what Prince Lazar said at dinner.

In the poem “The Prince’s Dinner”, the direct curse is shorter:

“Whoever doesn’t come to fight in Kosovo, nothing has been born from his hand: neither in the field white wheat, nor in the hill a vine!”

There is a belief among the people that the Prince’s curse has not yet been removed from the Serbian people. Although it is considered that the curse applies to the sixth generation, and that the seventh is freed, the curse of Lazarus is permanent, covenantal and universal.

The fear of Lazarus’ curse and the desire to get rid of the consequences took root in the people. When, after the Second Balkan War, the Serbian army was welcomed in Belgrade as the victor in 1913, messages were written on the triumphal gates through which the parade passed. On one of them it was written: “Flee the curse of the family, the Serbs have broken the covenant!”

The prince’s curse from the song “Musić Sevan” is engraved on the monument to the heroes of Kosovo in Gazimestan. However, the second verse was omitted.
