Canadian national team goalkeeper Milan Borjan said that he received more than 2,500 messages from Croatian fans insulting him. Borjan became the main topic of the match because of his statements that he was born in Krajina, not in Croatia.

During the match with Croatia, Borjan received a series of inappropriate reactions, and the fans unfurled a banner with a tractor. The media from the region had the opportunity to visit the village where Borjan comes from. In the village of Kričke, near Drniš, Milan’s grandmother Štefica is still found.

“I was immediately angry. Why are you going to mention Krajina, and your grandmother is Croatian, your father is half Serb, half Croat. So what would you want?” she said.
To the reporter’s remark that there seems to be no hatred in that family, the grandmother replied: “No, no. No one hates anyone, no one despises anyone.”
“I was not born in Croatia, I was born in Krajina, Dalmatia. It was a Serbian place. I describe myself as someone who is a native of Serbia, from Dalmatia, but I feel like a Canadian because I spent many years there,” Borjan once said occasion.
