The nautical season on the Danube has begun, a cruise ship with more than 150 tourists docked in Belgrade

The seven-day cruise started in Budapest and will end in the port of Giurgiu in Romania. The travelers spent Saturday morning in Belgrade.

American tourists emphasize architectural diversity – from art deco to contemporary construction.

For some, the damaged buildings in the bombing in 1999 drew attention, “It is a sad part of your history”.

“I was here 50 years ago, in Tito’s time. It was a beautiful, old city that I liked very much, and now I am surprised at how much it has changed. For example, there was nothing there in the Vojvodina part of Belgrade,” notes one of passengers from the cruise ship.

In addition to Belgrade, river cruises also stop in Novi Sad, Golupac and Donji Milanovac.

“In the meantime, we have opened several more piers, in Kladovo, Kostolac and Smederevo, so now we are working on the development of those ports,” says Ivana Milenković from the First Steamship Company.

Nautical tourists are mostly people in their third age and important promoters of tourism.

“These are guests who have time and money. They recommend Belgrade as a destination, so our souvenir shops also work. Every city in the world that has cruise ships is proud of that,” notes Ljiljana Alajbegović from the Belgrade Tourist Organization.

We are proud of the position of Belgrade and our rivers, the Sava and the Danube, but it happens that we find a pile of waste right across the pier. And tourists can see all that, from the deck and from their cabins.
