Kirsten Dunst was asked if “Civil War” is a political film: “In the real world, it’s a president who doesn’t respect the Constitution and democracy” – Society

The movie “Civil War” is in the spotlight.

In the movie “Civil War“, Kirsten Dunst stars as a dogged reporter who makes her way through a smoke-filled Washington, D.C., trying to document the conflict between two armed factions tearing America apart.

Although many say that it is not a political film, the journalist who is for Variety did an interview with the actress, she doesn’t believe that the film still doesn’t want to say something at this moment. According to her, Dunst doesn’t believe it either.

“So you believe it’s not political?” I mean … it’s an anti-war movie,” Dunst tells me with a disinterested shrug. “This movie, after you watch it, you want to talk about it with people for a while. And I think any film that achieves that is something incredible.”

When the film premiered in March, audiences cheered for the bloody, shocking ending.
“The whole film is open to interpretation,” says Dunst. “For me, there were things that I just accepted that were not explained.” It allows the audience to fill in their own feelings about what they’re watching,” Dunst tells Variety.

According to the journalist, it is impossible to watch this film without reminding you of this year’s presidential elections, “the ones where democracy and perhaps the fate of the free world hangs in the balance.”
However, as the journalist says, Dunst does not admit that the character of the president in the film, played by Nick Offerman, as a narcissist with authoritarian tendencies, resembles the 45th and perhaps 47th occupant of the Oval Office.
“It seems unreal to me,” the actress says of any connection between Offerman’s character and Donald Trump.

“I don’t want to compare because it’s the opposite of what the movie represents.” It is simply a fascist president. But I didn’t think of the character played by Nick as a specific political figure. I just thought that in the real world it is a president who respects neither the Constitution nor democracy.”
Dunst, however, is not shy when it comes to answering questions about real political events. He says about the upcoming elections: “I will vote for Biden.” That’s my only option. Is not it?”
Although Dunst insists that “Civil War” is completely fictional, the great divide in America that the film dramatizes is all too real. “The media really pushes it hard,” she says. “The media forces us to choose a side.” Everything is much more complicated than that.”
Although she said who she will vote for, the actress is not thrilled with her choices.
“It’s just shocking that we’re in this situation again,” she says of the reunion between Trump and Joe Biden. “It’s all about money, money, money, money, money.”

Then, as the article says, her voice cracks with emotion:

“Everything is broken. Everything needs to be fixed.”
