This was stated by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan, while the Ukrainian government minister said that the extension was agreed upon for 120 days, reports Reuters.

“The agreement on the grain corridor was supposed to expire today. As a result of our talks with the two sides, we have secured the extension of this agreement,” Erdogan said in a speech in the western city of Canakkale, without specifying the length of the agreed extension.

Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Oleksandr Kubrakov said the contract was extended by 120 days.

The United Nations and Turkey struck a pact with Russia and Ukraine in July – renewed for an additional 120 days in November – to combat a global food crisis fueled in part by the February 24, 2022 Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Russia previously asked for the contract to be extended for just 60 days, half of the previous renewal period, while Ukraine insisted on a 120-day renewal.

“The agreement (Black Sea Grain Initiative) has been extended for 120 days,” Kubrakov wrote on Twitter.

“Thankful to (UN Secretary General António) Guterres, (UN), President Erdogan, Minister Hulusi Akar and all our partners for adhering to the agreement,” he added.

Russia – 60 days

Russia has agreed to extend the validity of the agreement on the export of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea ports for only 60 days, the spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, said today.

“We repeat once more. Russia has agreed to extend the contract for 60 days,” Zakharova emphasized to TASS.

The UN confirms that the grain agreement has been extended, the spokesman of the world organization’s general secretary, Stefan Dužarik, said today, but he did not specify how long the validity of the agreement was extended.

Dujarric announced that the validity of the agreement, signed in Istanbul on July 22 last year, has been extended, and that so far about 25 million tons of grain and food products have been exported to 45 countries, which, he said, helped lower global prices. food and market stabilization.

The UN did not specify how long the validity of the agreement was extended, TASS reported.
