She considered herself lucky because thousands of Palestinians were driven from their homes and many lost their loved ones. But unfortunately, Sabrin never got to see her newborn baby and hold her in her arms, writes “Daily Mail”.
Parents and daughter died in the attack, the baby miraculously survived
The Sakanis escaped multiple bombings, but their luck ran out on Saturday when their building was leveled in an airstrike. Sabrin, Shokri and Malak were killed, their bodies were blown up by shrapnel and the rubble of their own house.
But one person survived.
When the rescuers were pulling out the remains of the family from the ruins, they noticed that Sabrin was in an advanced stage of pregnancy and transported her body to the hospital for an emergency caesarean section.
By some miracle, the baby was pulled alive from its mother’s corpse after somehow keeping herself alive. But her small, malnourished body struggled for breath, and the color drained from her face. She almost left a few times, but the doctors did not give up and pumped air into her mouth, massaging her chest with their fingers until she was stable enough to be transferred to the incubator.
A few hours later, the nameless girl was sleeping peacefully in the incubator, in oversized pajamas on which the paramedics had written “the baby of the martyr Sabrin al-Saqani”.
The grandmother took care, the baby was named after the mother
On Sunday, Dr. Mohammed Salameh, head of the neonatal unit at Emirates Hospital, said there had been some progress in her health, but that the situation was still risky.
Although her parents and sister were killed in the attack, the newborn girl is not alone. Her grandmother Ahalam al Kurdi came to the hospital and said she would take care of her.
– She is my son’s daughter. She is my love and soul – she said.
