The Washington Post claims that Atakams tactical ballistic missiles and additional air defense funds from a new $61 billion aid package to Kiev could be a game-changer for Ukraine’s armed forces on the battlefield.

According to the newspaper, a senior official of the US administration believes that “Atakams” could in the near future “worse the logistics of Russia on the front”, which is why it will have to reconsider its strategy in the long term.
According to the article, the Ukrainian armed forces could try to use Atakams missiles for attacks deep in Russian territory, in Crimea, in Donbass and coastal regions.
New shipments of weapons will be available to the Ukrainian army in the near future, as the Pentagon has already deployed ammunition in the southern regions of Poland, the newspaper said.
At the same time, the US authorities call on the Ukrainian leadership to use the new arms deliveries to consolidate forces and hold the front in 2024, and not to organize another “unsuccessful” counteroffensive, the article points out.
The United States wants the Ukrainian armed forces to “increase their power this year in order to seize more territory next year,” the paper’s source added.
The US will also hand over air defense systems to Kiev. According to newspaper columnist David Ignatius, it will “reduce the probability of disaster” for Ukrainian armed forces on the battlefield.
