VMRO-DPMNE candidate Gordana Siljanovska Davkova is ahead of the candidate of the Social Democratic Union of Macedonia, Steve Pendarovski, in the first round of the presidential elections, based on 80 percent of the votes counted, the State Election Commission announced.

Siljanovska Davkova won 39.8 percent of the votes, and the current president Pendarovski 19.4 percent, and the two will almost certainly go to the second round of the election.

The third candidate of the largest Albanian party, DUI, is the Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Macedonia, Bujar Osmani, who has 14.9 percent, while the second ethnic Albanian, the candidate of the opposition coalition “Vredi”, Arben Taravari, has 10.08 percent.

The mayor of Kumanovo Maksim Dimitrievski from the “Znam” party got 8.3 percent, the “Left” candidate Biljana Vankovska Cvetkovska got 4.5 percent, and the mayor of the Skopje municipality Karpoš and the leader of the “Grom” party Stevco Jakimovski got 0.96 percent.

Citizens of North Macedonia voted today in the first round of the seventh presidential election since the country’s independence. The second round of presidential elections in North Macedonia will be held together with parliamentary elections on Wednesday, May 8.

The government of North Macedonia declared Wednesday, April 24, and Wednesday, May 8, as non-working days for all citizens, so that they could vote in the presidential and parliamentary elections.
