New supplementary feed mixture for piglets – for gut health and growth – Livestock

In pig production technology, the piglet weaning phase is a very sensitive time for the farmer because new food and change of place often cause various problems. For the above reasons, special attention must be paid diet and housing conditions.

This change represents a significant stress for the piglets because several factors such as the environment, new grouping and resocialization, feeding and drinking water technology (new feeders, new waterers) or pathological environment with new microorganisms are changing at the same time.

As an additional stress is the complete adaptation to solid food because sow’s milk, which is the primary source of food from birth, is no longer available for piglets. One of the best definitions of weaned piglets is that they are animals about 28 days old, which have grown at least five times since birth before being transferred to the nursery as another production sector.

Enzyme training

In the technological phase of weaning, it is recommended to avoid overloading their gastrointestinal tract (GIT) because they may appear diarrhea and edema disease as a consequence of colibacillosis. It is extremely important that the piglets are physiologically prepared for the weaning phase, and this implies that they have undergone a kind of “enzyme training”, that is, that they have consumed sufficient amounts of pre-starter – as solid food, during suckling.

The food that piglets eat in addition to mother’s milk plays a key role in creating good immunity in the later stages of life. It is important for breeders that only healthy cubs in the nursery stage (seven to 28 kg) can have good feed conversion and high daily gains, and the initial stage (seven to 15 kg) of growth and development without a mother is the most important.

At this stage, the increase is not important for the producers intestinal health of pigletsthat is, their proper development, which in the second part will enable high growth and a high general health status.

A safe transition from the sucking phase to the breeding phase

The gastrointestinal tract (GIT) is not only an important organ for the digestion, absorption and metabolism of nutrients but is also the body’s largest immune organ that includes more than 70 percent the body’s immune cells.

It is precisely in this sense that a new supplementary fodder mixture was designed and developed within the company SANO – Protamino Piggy Start® within the Protamino® concept for piglets from seven to 15 kg of body weight with a specific aroma and delicious sweet whey adapted to “creep feed” food Bonni-M Forte® or pre-starter SanAmmat Puddino® with which it is possible to go through the rejection phase painlessly.

Specially processed vegetable proteins that are well digested by piglets are free of anti-nutritional substances and make the product Protamino Piggy Start® special because it enables a safe transition from the suckling phase to the breeding phase even though it has 40 percent crude protein. In addition to sources of easily digestible proteins, the product also contains the most important amino acids – lysine, methionine/cystine, threonine, tryptophan and valine in a total amount of 10 percent! The fifth essential amino acid valine is an irreplaceable nutrient in protein synthesis, stimulating proper growth and development, and influencing the immune response of the young by improving the survival rate.

An increased level of the mentioned amino acids in an optimal ratio lowers the acid binding capacity in food. In addition to all of the above, the product is specially refined phytogenic product (with antiseptic, antimicrobial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory action), which is designed to improve production performance through optimal gut health, but also with a special monoester that is an effective bactericide.

Along with the mentioned safety accessories, a special cocktail should definitely be emphasized organic acids and their salts which additionally act on the promotion of intestinal health, such as, for example, coated butyric acid, which serves to improve intestinal health, good consumption and conversion of food, and calcium formate, such as formic acid salt, which reduces the amount of harmful microorganisms that cause diseases of the digestive organs.

Greater digestibility of food

In the product Protamino Piggi Start®, special NSP enzymes have been added to increase the digestibility of food and the energy value of nutrients. The main non-starch polysaccharides (NSP) that form the basis of the cell wall of cereals are cellulose, β-glucans and xylans.

All cereals (barley, wheat, triticale, rye, oats) contain NSP compounds in larger quantities. Of course, the product also contains the enzyme physate, which improves the utilization of phosphorus (P), calcium (Ca) and microelements from the meal and reduces the degree of acid binding.

A balanced combination of vitamins (hydrosoluble and liposoluble) and active substances in the product (Stabilosan®), increase the resistance of piglets, a Aromaisan® encourages food consumption. For optimal results in the weaning phase, it is necessary to mix this product in an amount of 20 to 25 percent with the cereals that form the basis.

The best results are achieved when the product is introduced gradually with a slight transition from the pre-starter. For this purpose, it is recommended to mix and apply the following feeding strategy for piglets after weaning:

• two days ratio of 75% Bonni-M Forte® + 25% mixture with Protamino Piggi Start®;
• two days ratio of 50% Bonni-M Forte® + 50% suckling with Protamino Piggi Start®;
• two days ratio 25% Bonni-M Forte® + 75% mixture with Protamino Piggy Start®,

After that, give the mixture prepared with the product Protamino Piggi Start® up to 15 or 18 kg of body weight and switch to the mixture prepared with the product Protamino Piggi® up to 30 kg (grover).
