What are blue filter glasses and do you need them?

--

Technology has advanced so much that it has changed our daily way of functioning, where we use devices like computers and smartphones, i.e. those with screens that emit blue light, more than ever before. This blue light is the cause of frequent headaches and eye strain, especially if we spend a lot of time in front of the screen, which also affects the blocking of the secretion of melatonin, the sleep hormone. Fortunately, along with this technology, things have been developed that can prevent these problems, among them are glasses with a blue filter.

So, to avoid confusion, these glasses do not necessarily have to be prescription. If you work at a computer and because of frequent headaches you think that you have received dioptre, this does not always have to be the case, but you simply only need blue protection. If you still have diopters or have received them, there are diopter glasses that also contain protection against blue light.

One of the glasses that can protect you from this are those from Gunnar Optiks, which the PocketNow portal had the opportunity to test. The idea behind this company began in 2003 when Joe Croft and Jennifer Mikkelsen teamed up to create a solution for digital eye strain. Even then, this problem became quite common, as people began to spend more time in front of screens.

Before launching the first product, there was a three-year process that involved extensive research, development, studies, consultations with medical advisors, and tons of prototypes, until the company finally became official. Since then, Gunnar Optiks has continued to grow, developing some of the best lenses to reduce the effects associated with using digital screens.

Some people even wear these glasses while driving at night because they help them see better, and there are amber colored lenses that provide up to 65 percent blue light protection and improve contrast, which is great most of the time, although everything you see will color a little yellow.

Of course, there are several shades to choose from, starting with the Amber Max shade that will block up to 98 percent of blue light. It will also improve how you see things because it will improve contrast, but in that case you shouldn’t expect great color accuracy. They will be the perfect choice for you if you suffer from migraines and insomnia, as they will help you sleep faster and better.

If you’re more interested in spending time outside, you’ll enjoy the Sun Shade, which is basically a regular pair of sunglasses that will block up to 90 percent of blue light and provide good contrast, but they’re not suitable for nighttime. However, they are quite popular among pilots and users who spend more time in the sun.

Also, just as there are many devices and types of screens, so there are many pairs of glasses, including the clear variety, which offers 35 percent blue light blocking, and is great for those involved in photo and video processing. They will be even better for digital artists, graphic designers and creative professionals, as they will provide exceptional color reproduction. Yes, you sacrifice more blue light protection, but you still get one degree of protection.

In case you have dioptrics, this company, like many other optical companies, has covered this spectrum as it also offers dioptric glasses that also offer protection against blue light.

The point is that there are many choices on the market that offer blue light protection glasses, whether they are dioptric or not and it is important that you know that they are not only intended for gamers, considering that many jobs today involve working at a computer all day , and of course there is free time, which is largely occupied by phones. Accordingly, if you still do not have dioptres, for all these reasons you may get them in the future, and if you want to prevent this, it would not be a bad idea to get a pair that will protect your eyes from blue light.
