Today, the day after Lazarus Saturday, The Serbian Orthodox Church and believers celebrate the Feast of Flowers, commemorating the solemn entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, the last week before the beginning of his sufferings, death and Resurrection. As it falls in the spring, it is also associated with the awakening of nature and its flowering.

In Orthodoxy, today, a week before Easter, the solemn entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem is remembered.

According to Christian tradition, Christ, accompanied by his disciples, left Bethany for Jerusalem. The word about the coming of the Savior and the resurrection of Lazarus Four-Days spread quickly, so many people joined him on the way.

At the entrance to the Holy Land, the people welcomed him by spreading their clothes on the road he was going to pass. Waving palm branches as a sign of welcome to the Savior who goes to meet the willing sufferings, the people shouted “Hosanna (glory) to the son of David”.

How they record the gospelshis disciples brought him a donkey on which he entered the city. This fulfilled the old prophecy “Behold, the meek king goes and rides on a donkey.”

It used to be a widespread custom to spend the whole day on Cveta decorated with flowers. The boys made bouquets and brought them to the girls, and each flower had its own meaning. A willow branch is also placed “for quick progress”, sometimes dogwood “for health”, and the girls also put violets.

This flowers are not brought into the house, but left in containers of water in the yard to stay overnight. Sometimes flowers are dipped in water containing gold or silver rings and then the children are washed with that water. A willow branch is also placed “for quick progress”, sometimes dogwood “for health”, and the girls also put violets, if there are any.

In Serbian history, on this day, the people always gathered in joy, but without joy.

In Takovo, on Cveta in 1815, Prince Miloš Obrenović called on the Serbs to rise up against the Turks with the words “Here is me, and here is a war with the Turks.” Very few families celebrate baptism today. In some places it is celebrated as a covenant.
