The Serbian women’s basketball team defeated Japan today in Sydney with 69:64 (24:9, 14:25, 16:12, 15:18), in the second round of Group B at the World Championship.

The Serbian team was led by Jovana Nogić with 13 points and nine rebounds and Yvonne Anderson with 12 points and eight assists. Ivana Raca contributed to the victory with 11 points and seven rebounds, and Tina Krajišnik with 10 points and six assists.

In the Japanese team, Maki Takada was the most effective with 15 points. Saori Miyazaki scored 11 points with six assists, and Himawari Akaho scored 10 points with seven rebounds.

Serbia took the lead from the start and finished the first part with a 24:9 advantage. At the end of the second quarter, the team of the Olympic vice-champion managed to close to three points behind, 30:33, but the Serbian team managed to repel that rush and Čadjo went into halftime with a four-point lead.

The second half started with the “three” Nogić, who, together with Raca and Kristina Topuzović, led Serbia to a new advantage of 11 points, which was in the last part – 65:54, which was enough for the first victory at the World Championship.

After two rounds, both teams have one win and one loss.

In the third round, on Sunday at 10 am CET, Serbia will play host Australia, and Japan will play Canada from 12:30 pm.
