In the cutthroat gaming industry, numbers are everything, especially when it comes to earnings. As it reigns supreme over the distribution of PC titles, information about what’s currently on Steam is a good measure of success. Valve has decided to no longer leave their calculations to independent sources such as SteamDB or SteamSpy, but to do it in their own backyard, more systematically than before.

Therefore, the Steam Charts page has been redesignedand monitors game performance in real time (best sellers, current number of players, etc.). From now on, it will offer the same data with some novelties such as weekly or monthly sections. The classification method has also been corrected. The authorities say that they will now rank games based on overall profit, which includes DLC and in-game transactions. “Typically, the top of the list was those games that factored in earnings from premium add-ons, which did not provide a true picture of the success of free-to-play and cheaper games where players purchase season passes, major expansions, and other types of content”, said the Steam developers. So, everything will be on one list.
