FC Crvena zvezda is unique in terms of its performance in European leagues, as it is the only club on the Old Continent that does not have a defeat in the season.

It should be mentioned that Napoli and Panathinaikos entered the year 2023 without failure in the championship. However, both clubs gave up right at the start. First, the team from Naples was defeated by Inter in Milan by a minimal score, and then a week later, the green team from Athens lost in the city derby against the AEK team.

Red Star footballers want to repeat the feat from the 2020/21 season, when they won the title without defeat. At that time, the red and whites scored 108 points in the Serbian Super League (35 championship victories and three draws), with a goal difference of 114:20.

In the current season, Crvena Zvezda has 17 wins and two draws in the Serbian championship, and has extended its streak of invincibility in championship matches to 43 games. She lost the previous time on October 27, 2021 to Radnik in Surdulica. Since then, he has 39 wins and four draws. Such a performance brought them a turnaround in the championship race last season and a convincing lead of ten points over Partizan in the current season.

A special curiosity to the whole story is that Red Star has a motive to continue marching towards the world football record for the number of consecutive games without defeat at home. It is currently at 103 matches in a row, and the record holder is Real in the period from 1957 to 1965, which has 19 more games without defeat. In order for Real’s record to fall, Red Star would have to not lose in the remaining ten home games in the championship until the end of this season and win or draw in the first nine in the next one, Sports Journal writes.

The current streak has been going on since April 2017, so Crvena Zvezda holds the second and third place in the world list for unbeaten streak in the championship at home. The 96-match streak lasted from August 29, 1998 to August 7, 2004.

Red Star’s current streak of 103 games includes 94 wins and nine draws.
