After information appeared on Friday that the basketball team of Bosnia and Herzegovina will not participate in the Olympic Games qualification due to financial problems, a day later there was a reversal.
The public in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as in the region, reacted extremely negatively to this news, which seems to have led to a change.
The General Secretary of the Basketball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Amer Colan, subsequently registered the national team for pre-qualification, which the International Basketball Federation accepted.
“The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) has confirmed the receipt of the BiH Basketball Association’s application for the competition and will include our Dragons in the list of participants in the pre-qualification tournaments, which are scheduled from August 12 to 20 this year,” the association’s announcement states.
We will find out who will be BiH’s rival in the fight for a “visa” for Paris on April 28, when the hosts of the two European qualification groups (eight teams each) will be announced.
The group draw is scheduled for May, and potential rivals are the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Hungary, Iceland, Turkey, Sweden, Belgium, Israel, Ukraine, Great Britain, Estonia, Czech Republic, Portugal, Poland and Croatia.
It remains to be seen which players will respond to the coach’s call in the inconvenient summer term.
