Serbia’s “greatest rival” in the last ten years could change its coach if Switzerland does not win in Romania, at the end of the EURO qualifiers.
The football team of Switzerland barely made it to the European Championship and that was only thanks to a draw with the so-called Kosovo (1:1) in the middle of Basel. They were also helped by Romania, which defeated Israel, so that the Swiss from a relatively easy qualifying group managed to go to Germany only as runners-up, with a lot of trouble, but also big problems within the national team which are emerging more and more.
In the center of attention is coach Murat Yakin, who is criticized by the local public for Switzerland’s games after Qatar, and especially for the fact that relations with captain Granit Xhaka have seriously “cooled”. That’s why the first rumors appeared about the replacement of Jakin, who might be fired even though he took his team to the European Championship.
The goal was met, but the way it was reached was not. It was expected that they would dominantly reach the first place in the competition of Romania, Israel, “Kosovo”, Belarus and Andorra, especially because it also brought a good draw for the European Championship in 2024, but Switzerland, like Serbia, will only be in the fourth hat. However, while the Serbian national football team is celebrating its place after two and a half decades, the Swiss are criticizing their coach, especially the players:
“The coach sees how dominant I am in the club in my position. However, he is the one who decides which position we play, it’s not my job to decide. But wherever we play, we have to give our best. At the end of the day, that’s what counts”between the lines, Xhaka “stung” his coach Jakin, with whom he was in conflict before.
Now the priority for Jakin is to beat Romania for the first place on Tuesday from 20:45 in Bucharest, otherwise he could almost certainly be fired. It has already been mentioned that Lucien Favre could succeed him.
