--

The men’s chess representation of Serbia is on the threshold of incredible success. A round before the end of the European Championship in the team competition, Miodrag Perunović’s team is tied for first place in the table! In the ninth round, Serbia won over England by 2.5:1.5. On the other hand, the Serbian women’s national team reached the fourth place after the triumph over the Spanish team – also 2.5:1.5. The last round will be a good opportunity for the Serbian teams to reach the medals.

The Serbian chess players played a great match against the English in Budva and showed that they are deservedly in the fight for the highest ranking. Serbia is now at the head of the table with 13 points from eight rounds, the same number as Germany, and the third place with 11 points each is shared by England, Greece, Armenia and Croatia.

The Serbian selection played against the English in the composition Alexander Predke, Alexey Sarana, Robert Markusch, Velimir Ivić. And this time, three draws and a win were enough for Serbia to win, and grandmaster Ivić, the youngest member of the selection, brought the key triumph on the fourth board. He defeated the black pieces Ravi Harry and brought an important point to his team.

The Russian has been playing for England since the previous summer Nikita Vityugovwho until recently was a compatriot with the current Serbian national team player, with whom we draw – Alexander Predke.

In the previous round, Serbia also defeated Romania, led by them Richard Rapport – with him, Predke also drew, and then Saran brought the key point to Serbia. At this tournament, only Germany managed to beat Serbia in the third round.

In the last round, Serbia plays against the national team of Greece. Serbian chess players won the last medal from a major competition back in 1989.

The female chess players were once again fantastic and in the match of the eighth round they outplayed the selection of Spain with 2.5:1.5. He ruled a triumph Teodor Injac on the first board with black pieces in the game with Marta Garcia Martin. After draws on the third and fourth boards in duels MatnadzeGajcin and ManduraGrabuzovait looked like the match would end without a winner because the position Adele Velikić in the party with Sabrina With veg Gutierrez did not give cause for optimism. Nevertheless, the Serbian representative managed to win half a point by reducing the material, and brought her team two points worth the fourth position and the match for the medal. In the event that the Serbian women beat the Azerbaijan national team in the next round, they will win a medal at the European Championship.

The last ninth round of the European Championship in Budva will be played on Monday at 3 p.m.
