Sweden was left without a coach. After seven years, Jane Anderson left the bench of the Scandinavian team due to a disappointing performance in the qualifiers for the European Championship.

Anderson led Sweden in the last match in a victory over Estonia (2:0) at the end of the qualifying cycle, finishing far behind Belgium and Austria, who went to the tournament in Germany. Anderson tearfully followed the singing of the Swedish national anthem while his grandchildren watched from the stands of the Friends Arena in Stockholm.

In seven years on the bench of the “three crowns” selection, he reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Russia 2018, the eighth at the EURO two years later, but did not win a place in Qatar because the Poles were better in the play-offs, as well as the new EURO.

Also, in the League of Nations, he was relegated from the B division in a group with Serbia, Norway and Slovenia. Then the Eagles won twice against the Swedes – 1:0 and 4:1.

It is still not known who could be Anderson’s successor, but it certainly won’t be easy because Sweden is in decline even though it has respectable names in the team like Aleksander Isak, Dejan Kulusevski, Emil Forsberg, Viktor Lindelof…
