Former Red Star basketball player Nikola Kalinic he talked about the problems that derbies have in the ABA league.
In an interview for Basketball spherehe talked about the things that bothered him while playing in the ABA league and what he would change.
– I haven’t watched many derbies, but I’m sorry that there is such a difference between Euroleague and ABA league matches. In the Euroleague, it’s all about cheering, not throwing things on the field, because the clubs know they’d be fined. As for the derby in the ABA league, fans throw firecrackers, coins, bottles, chairs onto the pitch. All this can be organized in the same way. If I ever go back, I’ll try to change things up. When they target the referees, they have the right to leave the field and not participate in the further course of the match, while we players want to be tough guys and that gives us the desire to play even better. That’s exactly the mistake. Someone will say that we are spoiled because of that, if the judges can respect that rule, why shouldn’t we – said the Barcelona player Nikola Kalinic.
He also spoke about his former teacher, now coach of Partizan Željko Obradović. He emphasized how attached he is to basketball.
– He lives for basketball. He came to training in the morning and asked us if we watched any game that was after midnight. If I told him that I didn’t because I was sleeping, he would tell me what I was and what moves I missed in the match. It happened that after practice, he would watch children shoot at the basket and then correct them. It is rare to see a coach at this level of basketball so dedicated – he concluded Kalinic.
