Before the first match in the Spanish capital, Nadal held a press conference where he talked about his goals in Madrid, but later in the season.
“My goal for this week is to be on the court and enjoy it as much as possible. I want to finish the tournament alive and I’m enjoying the fact that I have the opportunity to compete one more time. I’m here, I’m giving myself a chance and hopefully things will work out to improve. I don’t lose hope in sports, things can happen very quickly.” Nadal said.
He also talked about his performance at Roland Garros.
“If I get to Paris the way I feel today, I won’t play. I’ll play Roland Garros if I feel competitive. If I can play, I’ll play. If I can’t play, I can’t. It won’t be the end of the world or the end of my career. Still I’m excited after Roland Garros, like at the Olympics.” Nadal said.
